Lesson 1: Objectives After completing this lesson, students will be able to: • Describe how Active Directory technologies are used in Windows SBS 2011 Essentials • Explain how the default administrator account is configured in Windows SBS 2011 Essentials • List the default Windows SBS 2011 Essentials password policy settings, and how to modify these settings • Describe account permissions and rights in Windows SBS 2011 Essentials. This lesson includes the following topics: • Active Directory in Windows SBS 2011 Essentials • Explain that Windows SBS 2011 Essentials uses standard AD, as it is based on Windows Server 2008 R2. Also point out that user management should be done using the Windows SBS 2011 Essentials Dashboard, not AD Users and Computers (although all regular AD tools are still there). • The Windows SBS 2011 Essentials Administrator account • Point out that for security reasons, the standard AD administrator account is automatically disabled, and that an alternative administrator must be created during installation. Other administrators can then be added later. • Password policy • Account permissions and rights • Explain that Windows SBS 2011 Essentials uses a simplified user rights and permissions model; for example, users can be either administrators or standard users.

Creating User Accounts • Add User wizard provides streamlined process: • Enter user’s full name • Accept default username or modify as desired • Enter password, must meet policy requirements • Specify access level, Standard or Administrator • Assign access rights to shared folders • Select Remote Web Access settings

Modifying, Disabling, & Removing Users • User Account Properties • First and last name • Switch between Standard & Administrator access level • Change the password • Disable/enable an account; different than removing • Modify shared folder and Remote Web Access settings • Specify which computers a user can connect to remotely

This lesson includes the following topics: • Supported PC Clients • List the supported OS versions and prerequisites (.NET Framework etc.) • Mac Support • List the supported OS versions and prerequisites; also point out what tools are actually supported for Macs, compared to PCs. • Connector Features

Lesson 4: Objectives After completing this lesson, students will be able to: • Describe the Connect Client Wizard • List the steps required to connect clients • Explain the initial client configuration, including backups • Explain the options for managing client computers in Windows SBS 2011 Essentials   This lesson includes the following topics: • Overview of the Connect Client Wizard • Client Setup Experience • Running the wizard • Entering credentials • Moving existing data and settings • Scheduling backups • Enabling wake up for backups • Managing Computers • Viewing client status • Viewing computer properties • Restoring from backup

Connecting Client Computers Benefits for connected computers: • Health monitoring • Automatic backup to SBS server • Ability to manage SBS server from the client Getting connected: • Launch Connect wizard from a web page:http://servername/connect • First step is to verify and install prerequisites • May require a reboot

Once prereq’s are met: • User provides their credentials • Check for admin account, if so warn the user • Select whether or not to move user’s settings and data • Greatly eases the transition from peer-to-peer networks to SBS • User retains their familiar working environment • Enter a computer description * Requires supported business client SKU

Initial client configuration options: • Wake client computer to perform backups to the server? • All connected PCs are backed up according to the schedule defined on the Dashboard’s Computers and Backups page • Administrators can exclude PCs from being backed up • Participate in CEIP?

Resolving Client Deployment Issues Unable to locate server • Client’s IP address is not consistent with the SBS server • No IP address: NIC driver issues, incorrect protocol bindings • Wrong subnet: incorrect static IP address assignment • Automatic Private IP Address: DHCP server is unavailable • Physically disconnected Resolution • Verify network connectivity • Verify NIC properties
