  7. PYP Curriculum Framework • Encourages international-mindedness • Encourages a positive attitude to learning by engaging students in inquiries and developing their awareness of the process of learning so that they become lifelong learners • Reflects real life by encouraging learning beyond the traditional subjects with meaningful, in-depth inquiries into real issues • Emphasizes, through the learner profile, the development of the whole student – physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically

  8. Units of inquiry In Kindergarten students study six PYP units of inquiry during the course of the year. All units are taught in a trans-disciplinary way, incorporating all disciplines and relevant skills and concepts.

  9. KG Units of Inquiry For more details about what we will be doing in the classroom please check the KG newsletters.

  10. The essential elements

  11. LEARNER PROFILE

  12. Language : an overview We believe that language is fundamental to all learning, thinking and communicating. It transcends all the disciplines and is learnt in context at every

  13. Early stages of writing

  14. Mathematics: an overview We believe in a ‘child centered’ and ‘activity oriented’ philosophy towards mathematics. This encourages students to propose ideas, test their hypotheses, generalize their findings and search for alternate solutions.

  15. Assessment • Assessment is the gathering and analysis of information about student performance. It identifies what students know, understand, can do and feel at different stages in the learning process. • Assessment is integral to all teaching and learning. It is central to the PYP’s goal of thoughtfully and effectively guiding children through the five essential elements of learning.

  16. Parental involvement • Newsletters will be sent home explaining and informing you of student learning, class and school events. • Various opportunities will be given to become actively involved in your child’s learning. OSC aims to provide opportunities to create a valuable partnership between parents/carers and ourselves. • We welcome parents to share their knowledge, experiences, special skills and talents with the class, if these are linked to the Units of Inquiry covered in Kindergarten. •  Each class will have two support parents. The role of the support parent is to assist the teacher with school and class events. The Primary Principal will be meeting with ALL primary support parents early in the year. Thereafter, the homeroom teachers will meet the class support parents.

  17. Communication • Email, Communication Book, Face-to-Face • We are keen to have regular contact and communication with you. • We would appreciate if we are informed of any special events that occur in your child’s life which may impact their routine. (eg: parents leaving the country, grandparents/family friends visiting, accidents etc.) • Please let your child know if you have written any message on it as it is their responsibility to show us the note.
