  3. Purpose and benefits of Unit 4 Relevant for securing future HE or job places Selling yourself is not easy – lets learn how to do it Improve your confidence Develop practical lifelong skills – presentations, interviews, writing applications, ability to reflect

Personal Statement – Do’s • Make it relevant to all – one statement fits all course choices • Make sure you have plenty of experiences to write about and provide examples • Always be positive about yourself, but honest and truthful • Spelling, punctuation and grammar, and written style really matter • Make sure you are likely to get a good tutor reference

  8. Personal Statement – don’ts Don’t lie about your achievements Don’t mention individual institutions by name Don’t try to be too ‘wacky’ to get attention (can backfire) Don’t copy others work - UCAS Similarity Detection Service Leave it till the last minute!

  9. Interviews Will determine whether you get the place or job or not Some courses interview all candidates, others interview a selection e.g. drama, art and design, nursing, medicine, teaching, social work How can you make yourself memorable?

  11. Presentations Purpose, content and audience are key Keep it simple and relevant Stick to the time allocated – use a watch Prepare and practice Use presentation aids – PowerPoint, video clips etc Remember to reflect on performance and feedback

Useful tips Use the templates and other guidance in the Unit 4 booklet to help you, and online PM resources/web links Remember to include a draft of your personal statement Stick to the word counts requested Include a copy of your presentation slides/handouts Don’t copy and paste info from the web - plagiarism
