    7. Description of College and Workforce Readiness A set of standards that describes the level of preparation a student needs to be ready to enroll and succeedwithout remediationin a credit-bearing course at a two-year or four-year institution, trade school, or technical school.

    8. Description of College Readiness Successful performance in entry-level college courses, including Advanced Placement courses, as described by sets of English language and mathematics content standards.

    12. School Readiness DRAFT Recommended description presented to SBE in Nov. 2008. School Readiness describes both the preparedness of a child to engage in and benefit from learning experiences, and the ability of a school to meet the needs of all students in preschool and kindergarten. School Readiness is enhanced when schools work collaboratively with families and community service providers to ensure that every child is ready for higher levels of learning in academic content.

    13. 21st Century Skills DRAFT Colorado's description of 21st century skills is a synthesis of the essential abilities students must apply in our fast changing world. These essentials skills are: Critical thinking and reasoning Information literacy Collaboration Self-direction Invention

Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness DRAFT Colorados description of postsecondary and workforce readiness is a students capacity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and competencies required for success in a global, interdependent society. Students must demonstrate: Application of reading, writing and computing skills with minimal remediation or training Logical reasoning and argumentation abilities Identification and solving of problems Information management skills Human relation skills Analysis and interpretation skills

Step 2: Standards - Background November 2007: Colorado State Board of Education calls for a Comprehensive Review of State Standards May 2008: Passage of Senate Bill 212 Spring 2008: Stakeholder group assembled to develop recommendations regarding the update of the Colorado State Standards. The group represents a diverse and inclusive set of K-12 educators, higher education experts, early childhood experts, business leaders and public policy leaders.

Step 3: Assessment Launch a high school assessment pilot with multiple vendors and districts which identify the best instrument This pilot begins in the Spring of 2009 and informs the state about which tools signal student readiness for postsecondary success Implement a new state assessment system in 2012 which is relevant and has students apply their knowledge

    46. Step 5: Endorsed Diplomas After state-adopted standards and assessments are established in 2012, students who score well enough on a postsecondary and workforce readiness (PWR) assessment will be eligible for admission to publically funded, open-access institutions in Colorado.
