  1. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project Field Testing

  2. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project The purpose of the Field Test is to generate data about the test items, not to provide an evaluation of the student’s performance, nor to evaluate the teacher’s skills.

  3. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project Definitions IBTP = Item Bank Test Platform CET = Classroom Enrollment Tool Test Administrator = Some schools have a person designated as the Test Administrator for the whole school. For most schools, the teacher is the test administrator. If the teacher is the Test Administrator, the teacher should view both trainings. Teacher = The one to administer the test. Proctor = Please consider having a proctor to assist the teacher administer the assessment.

  4. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project • Goals: • To GENERATE DATA on the Items, and: • to assist in developing the “how to” document from the project Range of acceptable scores based on school/district conditions and/or criteria • to evaluate how the test items perform - revise/reject

  5. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project c. to score items consistently using rubrics (to determine the validity of the rubrics) d. to Identify clarifications that may be needed to assist future scoring.

  6. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project AN ASSESSMENT THAT REFLECTS Performing Fine Arts Classroom

  7. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project TWO SECTIONS – can/should be administered on separate days. A - Responding-30-40 min. B - Performing-no longer than 15 min. ELEMENTARY: Sec A - 40% / Sec B - 60% SECONDARY: Sec A - 30% / Sec B - 70% (AVERAGE)

  8. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project Things to do in advance: • Double check with your district that they have completed the Classroom Enrollment Tool (CET) to FLDOE. • The IT person at your school should upload the “Secure Tester” to each computer as soon as possible.

  9. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project After completing the “tech check,” be sure that each computer has the latest update of Java, and media player. Check to make sure that the volume on each computer is turned ¾ to full volume.

  10. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project Headphones for each student (or their own earbuds). Check to make sure that each headset works (no need for a microphone). Consider having a few extra sets of headphones available - just in case.

  14. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project Performance Tasks Preparation STEP 1: On the first day of the Field Test window, March 10, 2014, the teacher should log onto the IBTP-Item Bank Test Platform STEP 2: Find Part B – Performance Task – for your course. STEP 3: In the left hand column- select “print test” (be sure to only provide the information on the PREPARED performance and keep the ON-DEMAND performance secure.)

  15. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project STEP 4: Provide the Performance Task to your students on the first day of the Field Test window, or as soon as possible. Please note: For the Field Test, you may choose which students will participate in Part B of the assessment. The Project suggests at least 75% of your students per course. STEP 5: Students have two weeks to prepare their performance. You may assist them. The student should be encouraged to practice the prepared task during school, after school and/or at home.

  16. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project STEP 6: Prior to capturing the performance, the Project suggests that the parent/guardian letter and student release are sent home for signatures. If the parent/guardian does not agree to provide a release, you simply do not upload that child’s digital recording of their performance to the Test Platform. However, you may want to score the performance using the rubric provided in the Performance Task item for your own use.

  17. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project • STEP 7: The teacher should dedicate class time to capture each student’s performance in a digital file – MP3 for audio, MP4 for video. • Be sure to label each file in order to connect the file to the particular child. We suggest that you keep a log of the student’s ID and the track number of their recording. ( See appendix B) • You may use any recording device to capture the performance – phone, iPad, digital recorder, etc. The school has flexibility in how this is accomplished. You should consider setting up a practice room or another appropriate room (monitored by a proctor) with the recording device, music stand, chair, a copy of the Prepared Piece and a copy of the On Demand Piece. The later should remain secure until the student is in the recording session. (See specific instructions for the testing procedures below)

  18. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project STEP 8: The teacher will upload the student’s performance tasks. The procedure is similar to attaching a file to an email. A specific PowerPoint will address the steps for this upload. (To follow) This step must be completed prior to the end of the Field Test window – April 4, 2014.

  19. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project STEP 9:OPTIONAL - The student can view/listen to their recorded performance and reflect on two positive aspects of their performance and two aspects that could be improved. The student will log into the IBTP and select the performance test they are enrolled in and write their reflection within the response box of the second item of the Performance Task set of items. This will not be included as part of the student’s score.

  20. Performing Fine Arts Assessment Project STEP 10:PENDING DOE NOTIFICATION: The teacher may have access to score the student’s performance at the end of the Field Test window. The teacher’s score will be compared to the Scorers who are trained to score the Performance Tasks.
