  1. DMV Registration Services: What You Need to Know

  2. If you recently purchased a car, you may have heard the term DMV registration services thrown around a lot in conversations with the seller and various parties working on your behalf. • But what exactly are DMV registration services? • What do they entail? • Do you need them? • How do you go about hiring someone to help you with them? Here’s everything you need to know about DMV registration services, including why they’re necessary, how to go about arranging them, and more.

  3. 10 Things Drivers Need To Know For those in Washington state, you may be required to re-register your vehicle by April 30 each year. If you fail to do so, your license plate could be invalidated and you may need a new registration form when registering your car. Before heading to your local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), you must know what documents you need and what steps must be taken. This DMV registration checklist will help provide drivers with all of their vehicle registration needs. • Social Security Number or ITIN/SSN from Owner/Applicant: Drivers need a social security number or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) if they are applying for their registration; however, if they are registering another person’s vehicle they must have that person’s social security number on hand. They should also have either ownership papers or proof of income attached to them. • Insurance Information – Proof of insurance is required to register your car with your state DMV. If you purchased insurance through your state DMV, you will receive these forms at purchase time. • Vehicle History Report – This report helps drivers verify that they know everything about their vehicle and helps them find out if there is any outstanding damage before finalizing the process with DMV registration services. • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and Title – Drivers need both pieces of paperwork to register their vehicle with their state DMV.

  4. Vehicle Inspection Form – If your vehicle needs an inspection, drivers will need a form from their local DMV to get it registered. • Proof of Ownership – If you are paying taxes on a vehicle that is not yours, you must have proof of ownership on hand before registering your car with DMV registration services. A paper trail can help drivers create further proof if needed during an inspection at their local DMV office. • Valid Driver’s License and Social Security Number (SSN) – Drivers need a valid driver’s license and social security number for themselves if they are registering their vehicles through DMV registration services; however, if they are helping someone else register their vehicle then only one of these items will be required from them. • Title Application Form – Drivers need to fill out a title application form, but only if they do not already have it in their possession when heading into DMV registration services. They should ensure all of their information has been filled out on it beforehand as well. • Odometer Reading and Odometer Disclosure Statement – Drivers will be required to give their car’s odometer reading and an odometer disclosure statement when filling out paperwork for DMV registration services at their local office; however, some exceptions can make these requirements null and void based off of your specific situation or ownership status. • Payable Fees – An applicant needs to pay all applicable fees before they can register their vehicle with DMV registration services. Drivers need to remember that every state has different fees, so you will need to check your local state’s website or contact them directly for more information. After a driver has checked off all of these boxes and returned to his or her local DMV office, it will be time for an inspection of your car.
