  • As we begin reading the American Classic, “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger, it is essential to understand the context and time period in which this novel was written.

  • The 1950’s was an era of change, something our main character, Holden Caulfield, is not ready to accept

  • To be able to truly understand the world in which Holden lived, we must journey back in time to the decade of the 1950’s.

  • Each week, you will research a different aspect of what life was like in the 1950’s. Each slide in this presentation will be a guide for the topic of investigation.

  • If you complete a topic early, you may move on to the next topic. If you are having trouble with a particular topic, you may skip it and go back to it the next day.

  • You will need to refer to the links in this PowerPoint presentation every day.
