  1. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Web-Based Solutions Technology in the Classroom Technology in Distance Education

  2. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P • An established partner with the EDTEC consortium • 30+ years of experience • Clearinghouse for web-based solutions • Global client base

  3. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Tonight we’ll discuss: • UNU’s web-based training need • Training Goals and Objectives • Our solution: Tech T-UNU-P • Connection between solution and need • SDSU Tech T-UNU-P Strengths

  4. UNU’s web-based training need • Integration of technology based learning experiences into the classroom and online curricula • Training of faculty to use technology for the creation, production and administration of online courses • Web-Based training that is accessible from 32 satellite campuses in 15 countries • Learning methodologies that meet the needs of a diverse student population

  5. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Design and develop a WBT program consisting of 2 learning courses: • Technology Integration in the Classroom (TIC) • Technology in Distance Education (TIDE) Instructors will have the knowledge & skills to incorporate technology into their classes and distance education programs.

  6. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Goals and Objectives for TIC Faculty will be able to: • Use a variety of multimedia technologies • Use presentation tools in optimal situations • Provide students with opportunities to use technology • Use a LMS when appropriate • Make use of the Internet & web-based resources

  7. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Goals and Objectives for TIDE Faculty will be able to: • Set-up & administer web-based LMS • Use a variety of social interaction tools (i.e. Breeze) • Upload course materials & presentation features during online course meetings • Use a variety of multimedia technologies • Make use of Internet & web-based resources

  8. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Our Vision - TIDE • Qualities of the WBT: • Navigation is simple • Format and Layout is easy to maintain • Short chunks of information • Self-paced • Take-away job aids • Opportunities to practice learned skills in a safe environment Web-Based Training with 9 Modules: 1. Introduction 2. Distance Education Technologies 3. MS Word 4. MS PPT 5. Learning and the Internet 6. Multimedia: Sound, Video and Graphics 7. Tools for Social Interaction 8. Authoring Tools Evaluation 9. Final Assessment: Accessible when Learner has completed Module 1-8.

  9. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Our Vision - TIC • Qualities of the WBT: • Navigation is simple • Format and Layout is easy to maintain • Short chunks of information • Self-paced • Take-away job aids • Opportunities to practice learned skills in a safe environment Web-Based Training with 8 Modules: 1. Introduction 2. Psychology of Learning: Theoretical base of learning with technology Technologies 3. MS Word 4. MS PPT 5. Learning and the Internet 6. Multimedia: Sound, Video and Graphics 7. Tools for Social Interaction Evaluation 8. Final Assessment: Accessible when Learner has completed Module 1-7.

  10. Introduction with Tutorials • Quick, meaningful segments to teach use of technology.

  11. Case Study • Showcase the use of technology to enhance learning in the classroom • Strategies for Implementation • How to encourage and provide meaningful interactions with the technology

  12. Job Aids and Q&A Forum: • Ensures transition of knowledge from WBT to a classroom setting. • Caters to answer any questions and concerns of the learners.

  13. Simulations • Allows learners to use information in context. • Provides a safe, non-threatening environment to experiment and use implementation strategies. • Guides learners to promote a physical surrounding that promotes collaboration.

  14. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P • Our solution incorporates the following: • Training needs analysis • Interactive, theory-based WBT • Variety of useful technologies • Pilot test for evaluation • Roll-out strategy • Our solution meets UNU’s needs by: • Analyzing the wants and needs of UNU’s faculty • Developing a WBT that will meet all objectives • Receiving recommended feedback by actual users • Presenting user success stories to promote the WBT’s effectiveness

  15. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Strengths • In-house development • Simulation environment • 24/7 Support • Evaluation plan • University-based company • Top education program in Instructional Technology

  16. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Strengths • Dr. Allison Rossett’s CLAM strategies for adult learners: • Contextually Authentic • Learner Centered • Attention Riveting • Message Extends

  17. SDSU’s Tech T-UNU-P Tonight we discussed: • UNU’s web-based training need • Training Goals and Objectives • Our solution: Tech T-UNU-P • Connection between solution and need • SDSU Tech T-UNU-P Strengths

  18. These were the original needs stated in the RFP – we should probably script comments to address each one as we go through the presentation: 2. Distance education being our primary form of reaching our faculty and staff, the design and development of Web-based Training (WBT) will be considered with the following items in mind: Readability; Navigation that takes into consideration our diversity; perhaps using icons to ease use; and Format and layout that is easily maintained. 3. The content for the WBT should: Be based on solid adult learning theories; Include video-based scenarios of best practices; Animations and job aids aimed at reinforcing best practices shown on videos; and Incentives for continued use (items such as positive feedback and letting the user know when a task is complete). 4. Two WBT courses: (1) technology integration in the classroom (TIC) and (2) technology in distance education (TIDE). Both courses should: Have well defined goals and objectives; Target the intended audience; Have formative and cumulative assessments; and Have help menus that are easily accessible and readable.
