  1. From Paper to Pixels A Journey to E-Maturity Mick Gilroy: E-Learning Manager ISIS From paper to pixels Project

  2. Why Change? • Traditional "paper based“ portfolios, were a stop/start approach to delivery. • learners and assessors compiled documentation, retained in ring binders, leading to lots of waste and ineffective evidence. • The learner and assessor tended to have short contact meetings, with long periods of inactivity in between. • The whole learning process was inefficient, and for many learners and employers, largely inappropriate and antiquated ISIS From paper to pixels Project

  3. Aims of the Project • Provide two way remote facilities to access qualifications, assessors and Learners at any time. • Replace paper with E-Portfolios. • Use a range of technology to carry out leaning and assessments electronically. • Provide staff with the required training and resources to deliver the project. 6. ISIS ILT Strategy • From start of new contract year, 1st Aug 2007, ISIS began to fully implement the new ILT Strategy as follows: • We selected an e-portfolio product, ENVQ as the standard platform for all qualifications. • Paper based portfolios are only used when a learner or employer has a specific need and ENVQ is unsuitable. 7. Implementing the Strategy • E-Learning activities were carefully planned. • Staff were trained in the required ICT Skills through a comprehensive CPD programme. • Learners are assessed to ensure their individual learning needs are met. • E-Learning facilities are appropriately presented and adequately resourced. 16. Lessons learned • One size does not fit all!! Our first foray into E-Portfolios was a disaster, because we selected the wrong product. • Select the technology that meet the needs of the organisation, not because they have been used successfully by other providers. • Spending money does not solve the problem, you cannot buy success!! ISIS From paper to pixels Project

  17. Lessons Learned!! • Have clear aims and objectives and focus on those (Don’t get sidetracked!!). • Have confidence in your ability to deliver E-learning and increase your ICT skills. • Make use of all the available resources. • Continue to work hard to get the right mix of staff skills, learning content and ICT resources!!
