  1. Creation Matters Genesis 1-3

  2. Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning — the first day.

  3. What Genesis 1-3 Teaches • God created everything. • Creator and creation are different.

  4. Days of Creation Genesis 1-2

  5. What Genesis 1-3 Teaches • God created everything. • Creator and creation are different. • Creation is orderly, not chaotic. • Creation is good.

  6. Genesis 1:26-27 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

  7. What Genesis 1-3 Teaches • People are made in God’s image.

  8. Genesis 1:31-2:3 “God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day. 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”

  9. What Genesis 1-3 Teaches • People are made in God’s image. • Rest is rooted in creation.

  10. Genesis 2:18 The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

  11. “So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:21-22 “The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.” Genesis 2:25

  12. What Genesis 1-3 Teaches • People are made in God’s image. • Rest is rooted in creation. • Sin ruined creation.

  13. Why Creation Matters • Animals are not people. • Worship the Creator, treasure creation. • Marriage is the building block of society. • Women aren’t made of dirt.

  14. “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” Romans 8:18-21 Challenge: Join in the redemption of creation.
