Head of State – the person or people in charge of a country’s government

Monarchy

  • Head of state inherits his/her job

  • Usually, a monarchy is run by a king or queen, who makes all the laws and major government decisions

Constitutional Monarchy

  • For the most part, the monarchs in a C.M. do not have any real power. The power is held by another part of the government

  • People have little to no control over the gov’t and its decisions

Types of democracies

    • In a direct democracy, citizens make policy and law decisions in person, without going through representatives

  • Representative

    • Citizens elect representatives to make gov’t decisions to benefit the whole nation
