  3. Polar images from 1845-1982, Arctic and Antarctic 20,000 negatives scanned Scanned to 400dpi (tiffs) Adjusted with Photoshop, raw archived Available free to use at 150 dpi (JPEG), for educational purposes The Resource

  4. Searching • Comprehensive search options • Simple search: images only, text only and image and text • Advances search: based on selection options • Tag cloud: key words by which images catalogued

  5. Facilitating Access • Freeze Frame motto: Conserve, Digitise, Explore • Conserve negatives via digitisation • Explore images via educational packages • Attract new users

  6. Educational Packages • Target audience • Who does the collection lend to? • What are people interested in? • What are the requirements of the funding body? • Is there a gap in the market?

  7. Pitching an Education Resource • What will the target audience use it for? • Situate themselves • Expand knowledge • Information to facilitate learning • Does it need to fit into a wider curriculum? • Must always refer back to the resource itself

  8. Thematic Packages • Situational packages: expedition summaries, leader biographies, history of photography • Thematic Packages: • Survival in Extreme Environments: clothing, nutrition, transport, shelter • Changing Britain • Northern Peoples • Climatic Change
