  2. Weathering Vocabulary • Chemical Weathering - the erosion or disintegration of rocks, building materials, etc., caused by chemical reactions  • Dissolve - become or cause to become incorporated into a liquid so as to form a solution. • Physical Weathering - breaking down of the earth's surface through the process of natural or physical means • Negative – harmful or bad • Sediments -Solid fragments of inorganic or organic material that come from the weathering of rock and are carried and deposited by wind, water, or ice.

  3. Weathering Vocabulary (cont.) • Gravity - the force that attracts a body toward the center of the earth • Weathering - processes that break down rocks at or near the surface of the earth.

  4. Erosion Vocabulary • Destructive Forces - Processes that destroy landforms • Erosion- movement of sediments and soil by wind, water, ice, and gravity • Flood - When large amount of water covers land that is usually dry. • Landslide - mass movements of land due to gravity. • Tsunami - A very large ocean wave caused by an underwater earthquake or volcanic eruption.

  5. Deposition Vocabulary • Construction - the building of something • Constructive Forces - Processes that create landforms • Deposition - dropping, or depositing, of sediments by water, wind, or ice. • Positive - good or useful

  6. Other Important Vocabulary • Agriculture - cultivating soil, producing crops, and raising livestock; farming • Landform- a natural feature of the earth's surface • Conservation - the action of conserving something • Fossil Fuel - a natural fuel such as coal or gas, formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms. • Mining - the process or industry of obtaining coal or other minerals from a mine. • Natural Resources - materials or substances such as minerals, forests, water, and fertile land that occur in nature and can be used for economic gain
