  1. What we did? Access to HE Diploma Practical Nursing Studies An access course for entry into a Nursing degree. A unique qualification with a work based learning element in a clinical setting contributing to a total of 60 credits.

  2. Whywedidit? To address the shortage of nurses in the Tower Hamlets health economy from the BAME communities particularly the Bangladeshi community. To provide a clear vocational route into higher education; to study nursing at degree level and therefore to increase the supply of qualified professionals from the Bangladeshi community. To help towards creating a local nursing workforce that is culturally and linguistically sensitive.

  3. How we did it? • In partnership with a number of providers and under the guidance of OCN we developed a unique curriculum: • City University – provided requirements for new Nursing degree • THPCT – Created course content • Barts and the London – created work based learning modules for the course followed by placement opportunities • Tower Hamlets College – delivered learning framework

  4. Who was it for? • The course was targeted at the local BAME community in Tower Hamlets particularly Bangladeshi community. • We promoted the course in the following ways: • Launch of ‘Nursing and Islam’ programme • Third sector promotion • Website –
