  3. Germany’s Flag • Black, red, and gold stripes • Designed in 1832 • Colors taken from the German soldiers uniforms from the Napoleonic War

  4. Germany’s National Motto • Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit • Means-Unity and Justice and Freedom • Government wanted the German’s to know what had happened in the past, was in the past and it would not happen again • Represent the new Germany and it was starting fresh from war

  5. Iron Cross • Most notorious German war award • Established 1813 after King Friedrich Wilhelm the third • Most visually powerful and recognizable military awards of all time

  6. Swastika • German Nazi war symbol • Symbol of the horrific past that the German’s had to endure during World War 2
