Economic Context & Environment • 99,390 Glaswegians in receipt of key benefits; • 51,360 in receipt of Employment Support Allowance and Health Related Benefits; • Impact of Welfare Reform – Universal Credit and Work Programme; • The number of JSA Claimants is set to increase • Job creation has declined at a faster rate than the rest of Scotland and UK; • Lower business survival rate than Scotland; • 397,000 jobs in the city; • 190,500 jobs(48%) filled by commuters an increase from 45% (2000 – 2010) as a result 11,850 additional commuters are now filling Glasgow’s jobs;
