  1. The Roman Empire extended, across Europe. Many were not part of the Empire, groups Tribes.

  3. In the late 300s AD the Visigoths , was being threatened by the Huns • Visigoths were forced into the Romen empire causing conflict eventually leading to a big battle in Adrianople 376 AD

  4. From 395 A.D- 412 A.D Visigoths attacked various parts of the Roman Empire led by Alaric I.

  5. The Huns • The Huns defeated the Ostrogoths, and were threating Rome. The Huns crossed the Dunube River attacked Rome, Greece, and Italy. The Romans fought back and forced the Huns to retreat. King Theodoric of Ostrogoths. “All I’m saying is, giving a little something to art might help our image.”

  6. In the late 400s Rome was no longer a mighty power • In 476 Odoacer seized power in the western half of Rome and declared himself King of Italy.

  7. The eastern half of the Roman Empire tried to take power back to the west so they sent troops, under the leadership of King Theodoric of the Ostrogoths, to fight Odoacer. They killed Odoacer, and Theodoric became the new leader of Italy.

  8. Roman rule in the west had come to an end. But the eastern side still continued. Rulers changed frequently, as one leader attacked and defeated another. This was the beginning of the Middle Ages.

  9. The Huns are known today to be vicious, savage, blood thirsty ,loud, unrelenting invaders.

  10. The Goths • The Goths achieved a bad reputation. The word gothic developed bad connotations. The Middle Ages became know as gothic. Dark, spooky, stories an castles are gothic. Reims Kathedrale

  11. The early Middle Ages is called the Dark Ages. This was the time when Rome fell under the barbarians attacks
