  2. INTRODUCTION Welcome to our travel trip. You will be taken back millions of years to when the dinosaurs lived. Since these fascinating creatures no longer exist, we have to find clues to help us discover what they really looked like. Help us uncover the mystery of what a dinosaur could have looked like by taking the steps to recreate a dinosaur model and drawing. Let the digs begin ……….. 3. TASK Your task is to learn about what others think dinosaurs looked like. Remember there were no people around during that time, so we have to rely on the clues the dinosaurs left behind. These are fossils of their bones. There are special grown-ups who dig up fossils and try to put them together like a puzzle to figure out how a dinosaur could look. Your task will be the same, you will investigate doing several learning activities to help you determine how to dig for fossils, find different parts, and pieces them together to resemble a dinosaur. Afterwards your final step will be to trace the skeleton bones and create a picture that might represent a dinosaur. Back to Main Menu < Next Step: Process >

  4. PROCESS Let’s start our journey in our whole group by taking an imaginary trip. We are going on a dinosaur hunt. Listen to the dramatic story on CD and act out the movements. Afterwards, work with your buddy on the following activities – Use the where have I been sheet to track your studies Checklist ** Learn how dinosaurs looked by visiting the following Website: What Dinosaurs Looked Like - Click Here ** Sort different dinosaurs based on similarities at the Math Center: Record your findings on the Study Sheet. Click Here to print one ** Try to put pieces of skeletons together on this Website: Dinosaur Skeleton Puzzle Too easy – try this site with several different challenge levels Challenge Skeleton Puzzle Back to Main Menu < Next Step: discovery >

  5. The PROCESS Continues > ** Go to the snack table and prepare to be a paleontologist. Get your tools: a napkin, toothpick, and a chocolate chip cookies for each worker. Excavate the chocolate chips. Put chips together to form a design. What have you created? ** Use the paint program to make dots to represent your design, use the computer’s paintbrush to write your name. After printing, describe what your design is to your teacher, who will record your idea on your paper. Find paint program – click here ** With your buddy, try your new skills by putting together some dinosaur puzzles at our puzzle center. There are several different types, including ones that reveal skeletons behind the pieces and for more challenges, try one of the 3-D skeleton puzzles. Back to Main Menu < Next Step: Discover more >

  6. The PROCESS Concludes: (1) Visit the library center and look at some of the different dinosaur books. Look at the different characteristics. Which kind of dinosaur would you like to find? How big will it be? Where would it likely live? (2) Go to the sand table with your buddy and use the paleontologist tools to search for bones. When you both think you have found enough to create a dinosaur replica. Take the bones to the writing center next. (3) Arrange your bones on a piece of paper, trying to determine what your dinosaur would look like. Take turns tracing the bones and each student should draw a picture that they think the bones would have looked like if they were from a dinosaur. Use your extra time to color the background. Turn your work into the teacher when done. Back to Main Menu < Next Step: Resources >
