DYB Data collection through questionnaires • Population Estimates (4 tables) • Vital Statistics (33 tables) • International Travel and Migrations Statistics (6/11 tables): Data on flows • Human Functioning and Disability Statistics (3 tables) • 3 questionnaires on Population and Housing Census (general 19 / economic 9 / household 9): data on stocks

  3. Alternative collection methods • Joint collection of data with organizations for population estimates and vital statistics as well as for migration (Eurostat/Council of Europe) • Data sharing arrangements with other organizations (WHO, ILO, UNESCO) • Obtaining data from national publications and websites (census websites etc.)

  4. Data collection: General timeline • Questionnaires are sent in December • Data is requested for April • Internal processing and follow up through summer • Note: Census questionnaires only sent after census took place

  5. Collection of migration flow data • Collected annually until 1999 • 1998: Recommendations on Statistics of International Migration Rev.1 • Questionnaire is adapted to the Revision and tested • New questionnaire sent to all countries with the 2005 data collection • Results for non-European countries: 16 replies (10 with data, 5 without data)

  6. Joint data collection on migration • Joint questionnaire currently consists of 13 tables • 5 tables of which are identical to DYB questionnaire - Major categories of inflows and outflows - Long-term immigration by country of last residence and sex - Long-term immigration by citizenship, age and sex - Long-term emigration by country of next residence and sex - Long-term emigration by citizenship, age and sex

  7. Joint questionnaire: Timeline • March 2007: Meeting of partners to discuss possibilities in streamlining the questionnaire; in light of the results of: • This EGM • The pending European legislation • Similar meetings (e.g. Edinburgh) • Internal studies done by the partners on response rates and (anticipated) uses

  8. Dissemination of migration data • Special topics on censuses: stock data • Special topic on migration: 1989 • Direct access of partner: UN Population Division (estimates) • Planned: integral part of regular DYB
