  2. Minimum Requirements The film critique must have the following format • Title of the Film • Summarize the major points presented in the film and tie to concepts to our class discussion • Outline the strengths and weaknesses of the film • Typewritten • 1 page • Must be submitted the next class after the film was viewed

  3. General Requirements • Spelling and grammar • Double spaced, 12 type font • Paper must be separated into more than one paragraph • No run-on sentences; paper must have coherent points of discussion • Paper must be stapled/paper clipped together.

Breaking of the Huddle:Integration of College Football Main Points • Bear Bryant/Fry/ Fishman/Duffy/JFK/Corso and their role in helping integrate college FB in south • Barriers to integration including political leaders: Wallace, Barnett, Connor, and white culture. • Violence against African Americans • Black pioneers of the south: (Meredith, Hill, Hood, Malone, Lanier, Smith, Levias, Page, Hackett, Gossum, Johnson, Mitchell) • Struggle of African American Players

  7. Breaking of the Huddle:Integration of College Football Main point Expectations • Understanding of concepts and themes that relate to class • A majority of the main points in the movie • At least 3 main points • Good depth of film

Class Tie-In Discussion topics • Past films with power of illusion (Race, inferiority, testing, DNA home, etc) • Jack Johnson (Superiority/inferiority, race riots, his boxing style, personality, etc.) • Champions Forever (Ali, Foreman, Norton, etc. with their beliefs and religions, starts in boxing like Foreman with Head Start, war of words, etc.) • Shadow Ball (Differences between white and black players, shadow ball invention, heroes and community involvement, baseball as a business, state of economy etc.)

Class Tie-In Discussion topics • Jim Crow Laws • Stacking • Negro Baseball league • Discrimination/integration/separation • Superiority vs. inferiority • Separate but equal • Slaves • Compensation • Prominent African Americans in Sport • Assigned book Readings • Prior Class discussion/lectures, not covered in that film, but relate to film

  10. Class Tie-In Discussion Requirements • At least 4 sentences of in-depth discussion on the films relation to prior classes or film and why • Accurate • Show what you have learned

Strengths and Weaknesses • Film footage (quality and audio) • Speaker/narrator/host • Something that was not covered in the film • Something that you are passionate about that was covered • Bias • Organization of film • Information was strong/weak and why • Be thorough • Multiple strengths and weaknesses • I did not see any or any other weaknesses or strengths for the film • No credit for this response • At least 1-2 paragraphs covering strengths and weaknesses.
