  3. Diversity Blueprint • Born in Monterey, CA May 1944 • Dad working in Army Signal Corps on secret project to teach Philpino spies signaling methods

  4. Diversity Blueprint • Grew up in Spokane till age 5 • Dad is back from WW 2 in Europe • I refuse to acknowledge him, call him “Mom”

  5. Diversity Blueprint • My biker days - this is an Indian, predecessor to Harley • This is at Victory Heights Post WW2 housing project outside Spokane, now under 4-lane hwy

  6. Diversity Blueprint • Move to Skyway, WA, just above Renton in 1949 at age 5 – Dad starts 41 year career at Boeing Defense and Space • Worlds to conquer at age 10

  7. Diversity Blueprint • Move to Mercer Is summer of ’54 • Dad has pulled the rabbit out of the hat, we have a small piece of waterfront down below on his engineer salary, lots of projects on our “Swiss Family Robinson” • Here I’m 13, the eldest

  13. Diversity Blueprint • Complete BS degree in Physical Oceanography with Atmospherics Physics minor at UW in ’67 • Work for US Army Corps of Engineers doing beach erosion prevention from ’67 to ’73 – they write a letter each year to keep me out of Viet Nam war

  14. Diversity Blueprint • Basic and Advanced Diver – Los Angeles County ’68 • Dive here at Catalina and for work at LA Harbor

  15. Diversity Blueprint • Take 2 years off ’73-’75 to finish flying ratings • Travel to Micronesia • Dorie Howell bid and won a flying trip with me to Santa Barbara airport

  16. Diversity Blueprint • Travel to Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalahara Mexico with my buddy Denny • Here I’m in the foyer of a motel

Diversity Blueprint • I decide to become a professional pilot • 2 years as flight instructor at Hawthorne Airport, just south of LAX • 1 year as Chief Flight Instructor/ Flight Dept Manager at Del Monte Aviation in Monterey CA • 6 months company pilot, Radionics, Seaside CA • 5 years as bush pilot in Fairbanks, Alaska, including 300 hours as flight engineer on Lockheed C-130 4-engine turboprop • Enjoy making my own weather forecasts, which assists my excellent flight completion rate

  18. Diversity Blueprint • Complete captain’s license on B737-200 in May 1984 in Los Angeles • 1.5 years as flight engineer on Lockheed Electra flying Air Force freight around US for Logistics Air Command • Meet wife Suzanne Feb 14, 1986 • Work for Boeing as Flight Test Planner ’87 – ’89
