  2. Welcome! • About Mrs. Eberhart • Bachelor’s from Widener University • Teaching Certificate from Texas • Master’s in Education from NAU • Teaching here for 11 years • Certified in Special Education and Elementary K-8 Education • Been married for 29 years • I have 2 boys; ages 23 and 21

  3. About Mr. Murrieta • Bachelor’s from ASU • Master’s from NAU • Teaching here at Santan for 9 years • Married to Kelly – a teacher at Jacobson • They 3 boys and 1 girl 

  4. About Room 23 & 34 • We are the inclusion classes this year and are very fortunate to have Miss Curry in with us during reading, writing and math. • A little about her: • Bachelor's in Elementary Ed from SUNY Oneonta • Master's in Learning Disabilities from Hunter College • Going back to school for Master's in Cross Categorical Special Education at Grand Canyon University • Teaching in Inclusion/Resource for 10 years • Moved from New York to Arizona 4 years ago

English/Language Arts Skill lessons in grammar adhere to the Chandler District objectives and Core Standards Write From the Beginning Strategies Use of Rubrics and Scales Variety of Genres will be used, but a large focus will be on Expository. Most of our writing will be centered around the books we read and our Social Studies and Science curriculum.

Reading - ELA Selected titles from “Trophies” (Harcourt-Brace) Various literature books Focus of Reading Instruction Developing fluency Expanding vocabulary Developing critical thinking skills Being able to answer comprehension questions and defend their answers with textual evidence Daily 5 and Literacy Café Strategies Individual instruction based off of: Assessments (DRA, DIBLES, Skill Assessments) Teacher observations Student goals

Mathematics Emphasis of Instruction Problem solving Skill mastery Conceptual understanding of math Math textbook series is Scott-Foresman developed to meet the new Arizona Academic standards in Mathematics. DOK based questions Other math resources will used along with Mental math activities Manipulatives Games Drill and practice

  8. Science The focus will be on the inquiry process. Data collection Experiments Science Topics- Scientific Method and Process Skills Weather/Atmosphere/Water Cycle Oceans/Water Resources Energy Plant and Animal Cells Human Growth and Development History of Science Science Fair Science Fair projects will take place the second and third quarters of school

  9. Social Studies Social studies will be taught using Arizona State Standards. 6th grade topics include: Geography Early Civilizations Mesopotamia Egypt China India Greece Rome Medieval Times Renaissance Essential questions to tie big ideas together

  10. Homework Nightly reading- 30 minutes and students are to record their minutes on their reading calendar Students will write a literature response based on books read at home and school. (Responses will be written at school but will become homework if not completed.) Incomplete class assignments will become homework Words Their Way- Suggested activities Rebecca Sitton sight words as needed

  11. Grading

  12. Late Work Late work with ONLY be accepted one day late. This includes any work that has been taken home as homework. Any late work receive a 20% reduction in grade after the first day and an additional 30% reduction after the second day. If the student is absent, they will have the same amount of days to make of the assignment that he/she missed. Absent work will be provided upon the child’s return from sick day/vacation.

  15. Student Binders Daily Agenda Language Arts – Reading and Writing Math Science and Social Studies Rules Folders for completed work, unfinished work and notes to go home.

  16. Community Code Developed with the students Olweus Bullying Program We will not bully others. We will try to help students who are bullied. We will try to include students who are left out. If we know that somebody is being bullied, we will tell and adult at school and an adult at home. We will practice each Pillar of Character each day: RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, TRUSTWORTHINESS, CARING, FAIRNESS & CITIZENSHIP. Character Counts – Character Pillars Developing student’s own internal code of conduct
