  6. The Romans • Roman rule • Tolerated other religions • Threatened by the teachings of Jesus • Arrested Jesus around AD 30

  7. Crucifixion • Jesus crucified – nailed to a cross • Buried by followers

  8. Resurrection • 3 days after burial Jesus rose from the dead • Stayed with disciples for 40 days

  9. The Messiah • Messiah – one anointed by God & would deliver Jews from foreign rule and restore the Kingdom of Israel • Jesus’ followers believed he was the Messiah
