  4. Danfoss Group figures • Net sales 2002: $2,000 mill • Employees: 17,000 worldwide • Production of 250,000 items per day Europe North Latin Africa Asia Pacific Total America America Manufacturing sites 38831 3 0 53 Sales companies 5687215 2 90 Agents and distributors 56 O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  5. Present technologies • We love 802.11 • We look forward to 802.15.4 / ZigBee • We see areas for Bluetooth • Today we use proprietary technologies and are successful but not happy with all applications • Do standards cover everything? No – that is why I am here • We have applications with RF performance needs beyond present level O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  6. Application O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  7. Application O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  8. Tests • We have done extensively testing on RF technologies • Several narrowband and several frequencies • Several WLAN’s • 802.15.4 • nanoNET • Have performed the tests in various environments • Industrial, commercial and residential • Internally and externally • Covered most application environments O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  9. Tests • Tested different antenna types and placements • Over 5000 transmission tests build our experience • Some of you may know that we have established a Communication Technology Centre O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  13. Test headlines • Existing technologies function very satisfactory for many applications • There is clearly potential in linear FM as a spread spectrum technology • Our tests show that performance is on the edge for “high end” applications with existing standard based technologies O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  14. What do Danfoss look for? • Higher range • Longer battery life / lower power consumption • Higher robustness against multipath fading • Coexistence with WLAN and Bluetooth O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S

  15. Summary • Great existing standards • We have applications that need more range and robustness • We believe there are technologies that can fulfil the need • We invite 802.15 to explore the opportunities O. Ploug, Danfoss A/S
