ICEIDA: Bilateral Development Agency • A separate agency under the authority of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs • Responsible for Iceland’s bilateral development cooperation • Bilateral agreements with partner countries • Allocates approximately 40% of ODA • Budget determined by the Parliament

  3. A Few Points in ICEIDA’s History • 1971-1980: Assistance to the Developing Countries • 1981: ICEIDA founded by law • 1981-2000: Cape Verde • 1989: Malawi • 1990-2010: Namibia • 1995: Mozambique • 2000: Uganda • 2005-2009: Sri Lanka • 2006-2009: Nicaragua

ICEIDA’s Policy • Overall objective: • Help reducing poverty and improving the living standards of the poorest • Principles for engagement: • Development need: • Focus on low-income countries in relation to the needs and challenges each country faces • Potential for results: • Assess the potential of the partner country to receive the assistance that Iceland can offer and the potential for results
