BEFORE PARISTECH, INDIVIDUAL “GRANDES ECOLES” IN PARIS • Several prestigious French “Grandes écoles” of Paris were founded in the 18th century • They recruit students following a highly selective process according to academic records, therefore each promotion has a limited number of students (300 on average per promotion) • The students are trained for top positions in Industry, Research and Management, mainly at the national level

  3. 1,594 THE FRENCH “GRANDES ECOLES” HAVE SHARED VALUES • Selectivity and high level education • Scientific excellence • Close links with companies • International opening

FROM AN ASSOCIATION IN 1991 TO A PUBLIC INSTITUTION IN 2007 • In the 1990s, 9 schools were federated into an Association, ParisTech, and started developing inter-school activities in a limited range • In 2007, ParisTech became a Public Institute for Scientific Cooperation with 10 schools • The PRES/EPCS status awarded by the government to ParisTech in 2007 allowed to award ParisTech degrees and to get its own budget • A permanent core structure (20 people) proposes and implements initiatives adopted by the Board of Governors and delegated by member schools

SINCE 2007 : An increased attractiveness A new brand A size comparable to that of international universities A centralized governance • 2 schools joined ParisTech, leading to a group of 12 of the foremost « Grandes écoles » in Paris • All schools progressively include the brand « ParisTech » in their name and/or logo • The number of students and staff reaches a significant size (19 700 students - 3,500 faculties and researchers) • A powerful network of 165,000 alumni • A President, a Strategic Council, a Governing Board, a Scientific Council

TOWARDS A UNIQUE GATE FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION • ca100bilateral agreements signed by ParisTech • 30%foreign students from more than 100 countries in the “Ingénieur” curriculum • 3 Joint “Ingénieurs”recruiting programmes in China (since 2000, with 9 Univ., 80 students/year), Brazil (since 2006, with 5 Univ., 50 students/year), Russia (since 2008, with 2 Univ., 11 students) • ATHENS programme for mobility in Europe (since 1997, with 15 Univ., >2000 students/year) • A common Office of ParisTech in Shanghai • A common international promotion policy (brochure, leaflets, website, joint participation to international fairs) • Organization of international events (welcoming party for foreign students, ParisTech International Day, etc.)
