This can include traditions such as religious and cultural beliefs and customs. • Conservatism is generally sitting just right of centre on the political spectrum.

About Conservatism Con’t… • Two parts to conservatism are economic and social • If you are conservative from an economic stand point you will think: • low taxes • privatize health care and insurance • spend money on the armed forces • leave the market alone. the stock market will have great highs and great lows

  4. Political Parties • Conservative Party of Canada • Believe in lower taxes • Little to no government intervention • Low government spending • Against same sex marriage • Reform Party of Canada • Really right wing • Privatization of social services • Progressive Conservatives • Center to right wing • No government intervention

  6. Advantages • Low taxes thus people have more disposable income • Low government spending in most cases • Traditional which means that that they have a set plan and they follow the status quo • Against radicalism and radical political ideas • They are a religious government and they believe such things as abortion and gay marriage are wrong which is an advantage to people who are religious • They try to oppose and reduce governments debts • Very loyal in their lives i.e. their family, church ,party etc. • They believe in being practical and finding a solution that is most practical according to the situation

  7. Disadvantages • Low government intervention in the economy • Traditional which means that they can be one minded • They are religious and oppose abortion and gay marriage which is a disadvantage to people who are pro choice on both topics • Low taxes means less money for social programs and health care • They oppose new ideas that may change the traditional qualities of life • They believe in keeping strict rules and guidelines in society • They favor the thought of privatizing health care

  8. Why Conservatism… • We are practical thinkers who will try to find the best way out of a problem, with minimal consequences. • We are traditional and will try to conserve Canadian culture. • No sudden changes so the unexpected can’t harm people, since nothing unexpected will happen. • We will try to control government spending so no debts are formed • Maintain religious beliefs and freedoms
