Datasets, statistics • Last two years still mainly IPY projects • GCMD main metadata catalogue • 14 dataset descriptions in AMD portal • 23 dataset descriptions in IPY portal (10 antarctic, 13 arctic) • Only a fraction of data freely accessible • Some datasets are claimed by several data centers • e.g. GEOTRACES, Polarstern cruise: GEOTRACES data center (project), PanGaea (ship), NIOZ (scientists, funding)

  4. Other activities Example: Abisko project • department of Systems Ecology at VU University, Amsterdam • long term (+10y) project of field observations and experiments on permafrost (Abisko, N. Sweden) • lack of central information about projects, field visit logs • notebook in field station, log forms in Word sitting on various desktops or lost, .... • solution: web-based application • overview of field visits in the past • functionality to add field visit details and log forms
