  2. What is Title I ?

  3. Funding provided under No Child Left Behind • Based on the percentage of students receiving Free/Reduced lunch. (Royal has 51%) • The funds provide programs/materials to help children who are struggling in reading and math. • Students may receive “Extra Help” (in addition to what they learn during math and reading time in the classroom)

  4. Parent Involvement Requirements • Annual Title I Meeting (this meeting) • Title I District Level Parent Policy(sent home Aug. 25th) • Title I School Level Parent Policy(on web page) • Title I School/Parent Compacts(sent home Aug. 25th)

  5. Parent’s Rights under NCLB • Teacher Qualifications • Non-Highly Qualified Teacher for four or more weeks • Request opportunities to meet regularly with staff for parent involvement • Participate in decisions affecting your child • Review application for Title I and make suggestions

  6. What does Title I pay for at Royal? • Pays the salary of one teacher and two teacher assistants. • Pays for our Accelerated Reader Program • Pays for our Study Island Program • Pays for materials given out/used during our Parent Reading and Math Nights • Pays for the food served at our “Parent Nights” • Pays for basic school supplies such as copier paper, teacher resources, student supplies. • Pays for Agendas & Nicky folders

  7. What will it ALSO “fund” at Royal this year? TECHNOLOGY (21st Century Learning) Each classroom will have three mini “wireless” lap tops for students to use, in addition to the desk top computers already in the class. The writing class will also receive mini lap tops for students to use to enhance their writing experience. The computer lab will be updated to have a “Smartboard” installed for interactive lessons.

NC EOG • Your child will be taking the North Carolina End of Grade Test in grades 3-8. • Four Proficiency Levels for the EOG • Level 4 Passing • Level 3 Passing • Level 2 Not Proficient • Level 1 Not Proficient • Our goal (and the State’s goal) is for your student to reach the “Proficient” level on the NC EOG.

  9. Update on School’s Progress • 3rd grade Reading 79.52% Math 88.1% • 4th grade Reading 90.41% Math 94.52% • 5th grade Reading 76.29% Math 88.66%

  10. Title I Assessments • Assessments are used to help teachers determine if a student is understanding the content presented in the classroom. • We use the following assessments for all of our students: • CPAA K-3 • ClassScape 4-5 • STAR 1-5 • AR 1-5

  11. Pam Willis, PTO President, will serve on the School Improvement Team as the parent representative.
