  1. EGEE JRA1 Massimo Sgaravatto INFN Padova

  2. Objectives of the activity • Provide robust, supportable middleware components, which must be use in a production Grid • Select, re-engineer, in case implement, and integrate identified Grid Services • Multiple platforms • Evolve towards new standards currently being defined • Services Oriented Architecture • OGSI standards now sort of obsolete given the WSRF announcement on January 20, 2004. • Based on requirements of • The applications (Bio & HEP) • The operations • E.g. deployment, updates, packaging, etc..

  3. Partners Issue: American involvement still being clarified

  4. Milestones and Deliverables for the first year

  5. Organization • Implementation clusters • Responsible for the re-engineering/development of the middleware • Clusters: • IT-CZ cluster (INFN, Datamat, CESNET) • Workload management, resource access, grid accounting • UK cluster • Information Services • Cern cluster • Data management • Northern Europe cluster • Security (JRA3) • Integration and Testing group • Integration and testing of the software generated by the Implementation group • Delivery of software to Operations • Based at Cern

  6. Management • Engineering Management Team (EMT) responsible for managing the middleware engineering process • Composed by: • JRA1 leader (F. Hemmer, Cern) • Chief architect (?) • Manager of the implementation group (E. Laure, Cern) • Leaders of the implementation clusters • F.Prelz (IT-CZ) • S. Fisher (UK) • P. Kunszt (Cern) • F. Hedman (NEC) • Manager of integration and testing group (M. Barroso Lopez, Cern) • Quality person

  7. Software Clusters’ Initialization Tasks

  8. Software Clusters’ Recurrent Tasks

  9. Integration Tasks

  10. Testing Tasks

  11. Effort Summary* *Note: numbers need to be finalized

  12. INFN participation • INFN Catania • S. Monforte (F, 1), M. Pappalardo (F, 1), G. Patania (UF, 1) • INFN Cnaf • E. Ambrosi (UF, 0.5), S. Andreozzi (F, 1), L. Bocchi (UF, 0.5), A. Werbrouck (UF, 0.3), new7 Most of them coming from EDG WP1 new1 … new7 already identified

  13. Next future activities • Next future activities of the IT-CZ cluster to be planned in the first IT-CZ cluster meeting next week (Milan, March 24-25, 2004) • Finalization and deployment (in the INFN-GRID) of newer version of Workload Management System software (DAG support) • Demostrated at the last EDG review • Improvements of the existing WMS • E.g. support of pull model, handling of no-matching requests • Definition and setting up of new procedures for development and testing • Code reviewed by different people • Testing procedures • Useful also to train new people • Towards a Service Oriented Architecture • OGSA and web services related activities already started • … • Issue: ARDA • Relationships between EGEE and ARDA not completely clear yet
