  3. Q of the Day: Do I know what is expected of me during class? What We Are Exploring: • Rules & Procedures • Building a Team • Creating Norms • Closing

  4. Before we get to work…. A Friendly Reminder Some of you will forget the context we are talking about… Some of you will have bad days…MOST of you do not mean any harm.. SO…sometimes you’ll need a reminder… Lions and Cubs

  5. Rules and Procedures Preamble • Why do we have rules in our society? Take 2 mins to write your response Talk to your Star Wars Partner to you to check in Empire you speak first for 45 seconds Jedis you listen Jedis- You will be summarizing what your Empire partner said Bringing this out to the floor… How are rules and procedures different?

  6. Rules… • Turn off and/or silence ALL electronic devices before entering class • Put away ALL electronic devices in your bags unless otherwise instructed • Bring ALL materials needed for class • Follow procedures practiced throughout year

  7. Consequences… • Verbal warnings • One on One Conversation • Phone call • Referral • Parent/Teacher/Student Conference • Administration/Parent/Student Conference

Letting YOU Make Choices and Control the Situation • I will be walking you through how we will be dealing with behavior that ends up becoming problematic for our community • The key to this part of the program is CHOICE and CONTROL • We will be taking a look at the GREEN DOCUMENT that is front of you

  9. Procedures- Entering/Leaving • Have a seat, take out materials, and ready for Preamble • Dismissal will be by Mr. Morgana (Not your phone, the clock, or the bell) • Push in your chairs all the way to table • Period 4 & 7- You put chairs up after PWR Reading Questions?

Procedures - Bathroom • MUST use planner • MUST sign out and sign in EVERY TIME you leave • During instruction (me talking to you) is not the best time to go • During Thinking Logs time also NO BUENO • During Breaks TWO at a time • 10/10 Rule No leaving 1st or Last 10 mins of class • Ask for permission at Best times (get better at “feeling” when it could be ok to go”

  11. Procedures – Absent Work • Recommended to see me during Office Hours • Mondays– 2:45-4:00 OR by APPT • You have the same number of days absent to make up work- (Hint: The same as Mrs. Amezcua) • You MUST communicate with Mr. Morgana 24 hours of absence Questions?

  12. Procedures- Academic Help • Come to Office Hours • Email specific questions Example: Hello Mr. Morgana, I have a question about what exactly we are supposed to turn in on Friday? Can you give me a response whenever is convenient? Thank you Paul

  13. Procedures- Academic Help-Contd • Non Example for Email: Hey, what’s the homework? Follow Up with Mr. Morgana if needed

Creating the Best Team • Finish the following statement… • I work best in a team when… • Google did a study for 2 years to find out what elements make the best team • You will watch a short video that explains this study • As you watch- Do the following: • Write down what are the conclusions to the study • Why is this important to have in our dynamic here in class? • Google Study on Teams • Psychological Safety

  15. Norms & Expectations • Do you know what is meant by a norm? Can you think of examples? • Let’s take what Google learned about the importance of creating norms to build a team • Take 6-7 mins to use the Brainstorm Team document to work with partner to help think about our potential Class Norms will look like • Bringing these out to the floor- take aways

Check in & Closing • Lots of Information to process • Take 1 mins to review and assure that there is 100% understanding of all the information from today’s session • Take 2 mins Turn to your partner to check in and assure both of you are clearly understanding the basic information • Questions?
