  1. Peer Power!!!Clique dynamics among school children By: Patricia A. Alder and Peter Alder

  2. What are cliques? • Cliques are individuals main circle of friends • These friends are able to identify with each other • Tend to be exclusive • Usually has a hierarchy that is dominated by the leader(s)

  3. Techniques of inclusions • Cliques go through an irregular membership change • When members are ejected from the group others are accepted to take there place • Often specific group activities characterize the cliqueresulting in membership inclusion and outsider exclusion

  4. Techniques of exclusions • Exclusivity is an important characteristic of cliques • Exclusivity is the driving force behind the desirability and power of cliques. • People want to be in cliques because of exclusivity, if you are in one then it shows you have what it takes. • Clique leaders maintain exclusivity by excluding people from their cliques. For example if a person wants to be in a clique but the people don’t think that this person has what it takes to properly reflect their clique, they wont hang out with this person.
