  1. Class ACT! Nutrition and Exercise Challenge

  2. What is Class ACT? • A 4-week Nutrition and Exercise Challenge for CSD Insurance Trust Members • Challenge to get to know and practice selected “My Pyramid” Guidelines • Team-based activity promotes a healthy culture and positive workplace morale

  3. My Pyramid • Developed by the USDA in 2005 • Accepted nutritional standards • Customizable by age, gender, height/weight, and activity level

  4. Steps to getting started • Form a team/class of 4-10 “classmates” • Choose a “Class Leader” • All classmates complete the contract and turn into the class leader • On the contract, classmates document their: • My Pyramid goals • A weight goal (gain, lose, or maintain – no weigh-ins!) • Class leader documents information on class worksheet and sends to HIT

During the challenge • Classmates document physical activity, veggie, fruit, and water intake • Classes should hold a weekly activity to boost morale and provide support • Classmates can earn bonus points for: • Turning in weekly log on time • Attending weekly activity • Meeting a weekly food challenge • Participating in a CIGNA Health Advocacy Program (Well Aware, Healthy Pregnancies, etc.) • Meeting their weight goal

  7. Class Leader’s Role • Collect weekly classmate logs • Enter in class worksheet (Excel-based) • Submit electronically to HIT at end of challenge • Print participation certificates for all classmates

Next Steps • Challenge scheduled for Feb 7 to Mar 6, 2011 • Materials are available online at http://www.csd.org/cigna/classact • Begin promoting first full week in January • Class sign-ups due Jan 31, 2011 • Top classes will receive a team award; districts are also encouraged to have their own awards • Questions?
