  2. Binary Ionic Compounds -Naming • The name of the first element, the metal, is named in full. The second element, the nonmetal, is named using the stem plus an -ide ending. • Stem = name of element minus -ine, -ygen, -ur, -ium, -ogen, -on, -ic, or -orus ending.

  3. Binary Ionic Compounds -Naming (cont’d) • Remember • The positively charged ion is named first. • Names are written with only lowercase letters. • Examples • AgCl - silver chloride • MgBr2 - magnesium bromide • K2O - potassium oxide
