Budding: • a type of asexual reproduction in which a cell or group of cells pinch off from the parent to form a new individual. • Mitosis: • a type of asexual reproduction is when a nucleus undergoes cell division in which two daughter cells are formed, each containing a complete set of identical chromosomes. • The stages of Mitosis are: • Prophase • Metaphase • Anaphase • Telophase • What happens before and after mitosis? • Interphase • Cytokinesis

  7. The way a scientist would say it: • In sexual reproduction a gamete (egg cell) unites with another gamete (sperm cell). This process is called fertilization. When the two cells combine together they form a zygote. The fertilized egg cell, carrying genetic information from each parent, multiplies to form the complete organism. • Remember: • Gametes are haploid cells

  9. Meiosis • Produces sex cells • Sex cells contain half the number of chromosomes--haploids • Does this in two parts • Meiosis I • Meiosis II • At the end of both parts four haploid daughter cells are produced.

  10. As a scientists would say it: • Meiosis is a form of cell division that allows offspring to have the same number of chromosomes as their parent. This kind of cell division, which produces gametes (sex cell) containing half the number of chromosomes as a parent’s body cell, is called meiosis.
