Thrilling, well-written, thought-provoking fourth installment in the Warrior Heir seriesBy TinkertestifyPerhaps the best-written of the Warrior Heir series by Chima - she develops Jorah Kinlock's character very well and gives him some serious fighting skills as well as some serious personal/family issues he has to sort out while going from combat sequence to combat sequence. The real beauty of this book within this series is that it adds a whole new dimension to the 5-guild world that basically involves a new zombie-like threat that is credible, disturbing and which provides the platform for some seriously good action. The ending does involve a cliffhanger...but DEAL WITH IT...and up until then the ride is more thrilling, action-packed and gripping-your-chair armrest than in the rest of this serious - which are all excellent books in their own right. Not very satisfying.By Jerry HartThe book starts off weird, with a sequence that wasn't very involving. There was a strange sense of detachment to the horrifying images our hero Jonah was subjected to, and I just couldn't get invested. Then the story throws an overwhelming amount of characters at us, as well as a lot of exposition that is repeated a surprising number of times. And then it all ends with a cliffhanger, and I hate cliffhangers. Especially since the whole book felt like one really long prologue. I wouldn't even say there's much of a finale. It just sorta ends. Definitely not one of Cinda's best, in my opinion, though I'm still a big fan and will read the next book. "The Enchanter Heir" just wasn't very satisfying. Such a let down....By Neen McClureI have read all of Cinda Chima's books (The Seven Realm's and the Heir Chronicles) and have enjoyed every one until now. Beware spoiler: this book ends on a cliff, big time. None of her other books in the Heir Chronicles series have been more than a one book contained story and I was very shocked when I could not read to the end of these characters story. I will think very hard on buying the next book = I really want to know how their story ends but she does not publish very quickly and I may have forgotten all about this book by then because I read so many books. Guess I will end this on a cliff and say I don't know how my reading taste will be when the next book comes out. They called it the Thorn Hill Massacre-the brutal attack on a once-thriving Weir community. Though Jonah Kinlock lived through it, he did not emerge unscathed: like the other survivors Jonah possesses unique magical gifts that set him apart from members of the mainline guilds. His skin is poisonous and he can kill from a simple touch; his job is to rid the world of shades. Emma is also a talented musician, but unlike Jonah, she is not aware of her special abilities. The teens are star-crossed lovers with overwhelming obstacles blocking their paths. As Emma's world slowly converges with Jonah's, both of their lives spin into a chaotic downward spiral. Scattered with musical references throughout, the book also tackles serious themes of disability and discrimination. The cliff-hanger ending will leave readers restless for more.
