  1. Long Term Care Facility Resiliency & Evacuation PlanningWorkgroup Strategy and Actions to Ensure a Safe Environment of Care during extended loss of normal electric power

Background • A proposed tasking by GA to VDH and DSS- in response to effects of power loss after “Derecho” event last year • VDH/DSS moved ahead and convened group to develop recommendations for improvement • Work group members include VHCA, VANHA, SFMO, DARS, VALA, VPLC, jurisdiction EM, VDH, DSS and healthcare coalition EM

  3. Three Sub-Groups • Resiliency and Evacuation Planning • Review current capabilities and identify gaps • Identify information and planning resources to assist facilities strengthen capabilities • Identify and recommend actions for effective information sharing, maintaining situational awareness • Identify/recommend opportunities for enhanced mutual aid and community partnership

  4. . Facility Operations/Emergency Power • Review/recommend how performance, capacity & reliability of power generators and electrical engineering systems could be improved • Identify/recommend actions for expediting repair/replacement/augmentation of installed systems during a power loss event

  5. . Outreach to Stakeholders • Draft a comprehensive list of stakeholders and recommend how best to engage them in a collaborative effort toward ensuring a safe environment for their residents during a prolonged power outage or other emergency that impact normal facility operations • Get input on what resources, training, guidance, etc. they need in order to address issues impacting safety/environment of care for residents
