  3. Banking Day and the Contract • Article 8 Section 4: • You are required to attend No more than 10faculty meetings per year • You may be called to attend No more that 5special purpose meetings per year • The district will make reasonable effort to use written memoranda in lieu of meetings • Article 20 Section1: • 75% of the voting membership must agree to any and all waivers of the contract

  4. Where does the time come from? • Banked Time IS YOUR TIME! • Example-The current schedule for Rosemont: • Banking Day Schedule • Teacher day M-F: 7:45-3:00 • Student day MTWF 8:00-3:00 • Student day Th 9:00-3:00 • School day without banking • Teacher day M-F 7:45-3:00 • Student day M-F 8:00-2:45

  5. Banking Day Options • What are the needs of your school site? • Bank 15 minutes a day and have banking day once a week • Bank 6 minutes a day and have banking day twice a month • Bank 3 minutes a day and have banking day once a month

  6. What are we going to do on our banking days? • How many banking days are there? • In the 2010-2011 school year Rosemont had 32 banking days • Thursdays were lost due to holidays, testing, etc. • Decide if you want to make a plan per month or per 4 weeks • Decide what to do on your banking days • Faculty meetings • Department/grade level meeting (for FOR, department business, or for professional development) • Rosemont-we would like to have a banking day prior to progress reports (every 5 weeks)

  7. How do we decide what is best for our school? • Meet with your faculty without administrators present • Have an open discussion about what best meets the needs of your staff • Present to the principal what your staff would like • Create a ballot and vote • The ballot and vote is to be done by a GTA rep only

  8. Give and Take • Don’t agree to a meeting every banking day • This is your time and you are willing to do what is best for the school and students, but it is your time • This is a give and take situation, don’t agree to more than 20 meetings a year • If a program is “crucial” for student success then you need to be paid for your time or have release time.

  9. DRCDistrict Review Committee • Who is on the committee? • Article 20 Section 3: • 3 administrators appointed by the district • 3 classroom teachers appointed by GTA • 3 others – 2 parents and 1 classified employees

  10. Current Schedule • If your staff didn’t vote to have a meeting every banking day always ask if the meeting is mandatory.

  11. Questions • If you have any questions, call the GTA office and leave a message or you may email me at glendaleteachers.org • Let us know if you would like someone to come to your school site to talk about banking day procedures
