  2. Lesson 1 • Open up the file to work on (ps0901.psd) and save it as ps0901-work. • Select the Quick Selection tool, and click and drag on the jacket, if you miss some, just paint a stroke over it to add it to the selection. If the selection goes too far, hold down the Alt key and click on the part you want to deactivate. Increase and decrease the size of the tool by pressing the [ or ] key.

  3. If the layers panel is not visible, choose Window > Layers. • Click and hold on the Create New Fill or Adjustment layer button at the bottom of the Layers panel. • Select Hue/Saturation from the pop-up menu. The Properties panel appears with the Hue/Saturation options visible. Hue refers to the color.

  4. Check the Colorize checkbox, and click the drag the Hue slider to the right to about the 70 point, or type 70 in the Hue text field. • Click and drag the saturation slider to the left to about the 20 point, or type 20 into the Saturation text field. The jacket is now green. • Choose File > Save. If the Format Options dialog box appears, press OK.

  5. REFINING THE ADJUSTMENT LAYER MASK • Alt+click on the adjustment mask thumbnail, to the right of the Hue/Saturation thumbnail in the Layers panel. • The mask appears. Everywhere that it appears white, the saturation changes. Where the mask is black, the changes are not occuring. Using the painting tools in Photoshop, you can edit a mask by painting black and white and even varying opacities to control the results of the adjustment layer.

  6. To return to the normal layer view, click once on the word Background in the Layers panel. You will now make changes to the adjustment mask thumbnail. • Click once on the adjustment mask thumbnail (to the right of the Hue/Saturation adjustment layer thumbnail).

  7. Now select the Brush tool and press D on your keyboard to set the colors to the default of black and white. Note that when in a mask, white is the foreground color and black is the background color. • Adjust your brush size as needed to paint the areas in the mask in the mask that might not have been selected, and thus not affected, when you created the adjustment layer.

  8. Press X on your keyboard to swap the foreground colors. Black is now the foreground color. • Now, find a section of your image – perhaps the hand tucked in underneath the elbow – that has the Hue/Saturation change applied to it in error. You will paint this area with the black paint brush, with the mask active, to block the change from occurring there. • Adjust your paint brush to the right size and softness, and paint over the hand to reveal the actual flesh color.

ADJUSTING THE HUE/SATURATION LAYER • In this section you will apply more color to the blazer, and also edit the existing hue and saturation. • Click once on the adjustment layer thumbnail to reopen the Hue/Saturation information in the Properties panel. • On the Properties panel, click and drag the Hue slider to the right to about the 260 point, or type 260 into the Hue text field.

  10. Click and drag the Saturation slider to the right to about the 40 point, or type 40 into the Saturation text field. The green is now changed to a violet. • Choose File > Save, and keep the image open for the next section.

  11. ADDING A PATTERN FILL LAYER • DEFINING THE PATTERN • You can create a pattern out of any pixel formation that you can select with the Rectangular Marquee. • Leave the ps0901_work.psd file open, and open an additional image. Choose File > Browse in Bridge to open Adobe Bridge.

  12. If you are not already there, navigate to the ps09lessons folder, inside the pslessons folder you created on your computer and double-click on the file named ps0902.psd. An image of an ornate pattern appears. Because you are using the entire image to create the pattern, you do not need to select anything. • Choose Edit > Define Pattern. The Pattern Name dialog box appears. Type ornate in the Name text field, and press OK.

  13. Choose File > Close to close the image without making any changes

  14. APPLYING THE PATTERN • You will now apply the pattern to the jacket, using a new fill layer. • Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the Layer mask thumbnail of your adjustment layer. The mask is activated as a selection. • Now that you have an active selection of the woman’s blazer, click and hold on the Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer Button at the bottom of the Layers panel, and choose Pattern. The Pattern Fill dialog box appears. Your new pattern should be visible. If not, click on the downward arrow to the right of the visible swatch to select a different pattern.

  15. With the Pattern Fill dialog box still open, use the Scale slider to set the scale of the pattern to 25% or type 25 into the Scale text field, and press OK. • With your new Fill layer still selected, click and hold on Normal in the blending mode drop-down menu on the Layers panel, and Choose Multiply. You can experiment with the other blending modes to see how they affect the final rendering of the patter.

  16. Choose File > Save and then File > Close to close this image. • You are now finished with this section.

  17. Lesson 2 • USING THE BLACK & WHITE ADJUSTMENT LAYER • Choose File > Browse in Bridge to open Adobe Bridge. • Navigate to the ps09lessons folder, inside the pslessons folder you created on your computer and double-click on the file named ps0903.psd. A cityscape appears. • Choose File > Save as; the Save As dialog box appears. Navigate to the ps09lessons folder. In the Name text field, type ps0903_work and select Photoshop from the Format drop-down menu. Press save.

  18. Click on the Create New Fill or Adjustment Layer button at the bottom of the Layers panel and select Black & White. The Black and White setting become active in the Properties panel. • Click on the pointing Finger icon in the Properties panel to make that option active. • Click and hold on the sky in the image; a pointing finger with a double arrow appears. The color that would make changes to that part of the image (the sky) is affected.

  19. Continue holding down on the sky image, and drag to the right; notice that you automatically lightened the blues in the sky. Click and drag to the left to make the conversion darker. • Now, click on the darker streaming car lights in the image; the Reds are highlighted. Click and drag to the right to lighten them. You can just make visual adjustments for this image, but if you were concerned about maintaining certain values, you would want to have the Window > Info panel open.

  20. You can turn the visibility of this adjustment layer off and on by clicking on the visibility icon to the left of the Black & White 1 adjustment layer. • Choose File > Save. Keep the file open for the next section of this lesson.

  21. ADDING A TINT • Double-click on the Black & White 1 layer thumbnail icon in the Layer’s panel. This activates the Black & White settings in the Properties panel. • Check the Tint checkbox. You can click on the color box to the right of the Tint checkbox to assign a color from the color libraries.

  22. Click once on the Color box to the right of the Tint check box; the Color Picker (Tint Color) dialog box appears. • Press the Color Libraries button’ the Color Libraries dialog box appears. From the Book drop-down menu, select Pantone+ Solid Coated, if it is not already selected.

  23. Type 642 quickly, without pausing between typing the numbers. There is no text field in this dialog box, and so, by typing a Pantone number, you can easily locate it in the list of colors. Type too slowly and you could have an inaccurate color selection. You can try it again if Pantone 642 C is not selected. Press OK to close the Color Libraries dialog box. The color tint is assigned Pantone 642 C. • Choose File > Save. Leave the file open for the next section of this lesson.

  24. APPLYING A GRADIENT TO THE ADJUSMENT LAYER • The next step adds blending technique for using adjustment layers. By applying a gradient to the mask, you can blend the Black & White effect into a color image. • Press D on your keyboard to make sure that you are back to the default foreground and background colors of black and white. • Click once on the Black & White adjustment layer mask thumbnail to select it.

  25. Select the Gradient tool, and type 0. By typing 0, you are assigning 100 percent opacity to the gradient. • Click and drag from the left side of the image to the right. A gradient is created in the same direction and angle as the line you draw. If you don’t like how it turned out, you can make the line longer or shorter for a different effect, also you can press X to reverse the colors.

  26. Choose > File Save. Keep the file open for the next part of this lesson. • You have completed the Black & While adjustment layer section of this lesson.

  27. LAYER STYLES • By using layer styles, such as shadows, glows, and bevels, you can change appearance of images on layers. Layer styles are linked to the layer that is selected when the style is applied, but they can also be copied and pasted to other layers. Combinations of styles can also be saved as a custom style to be applied to other layers.

  28. Creating the text layer • In this section, you will created a text layer and apply a combination of effects to it. Then you will save the combined effects as a new style to apply to another layer. You should still have the file ps0903_work.psd open from the last lesson.

  29. Select the Type tool (T) and click anywhere on the image. Type CITY LIGHT. • Press Ctrl+A to select the text. Alternatively you can choose Select > All from the menu bar. You can change the size of the text by highlighting it and pressing Ctrl+Shift+>(or <)

  30. Next you will find a type of font that you would like to change the words to. • By making sure the type tool is selected and pressing Ctrl+Ayou can select all of the text. • Now, highlight the font family name in the Type tool options bar at the top of the Photoshop workspace, and press the up arrow or down arrow keys to scroll through your list of font families.

  31. With the text still selected, choose White from the Swatches panel. Press the Commit check mark in the far right of the Options bar to commit your type changes.

  32. Applying the Outer Glow layer style • Click on the text layer name CITY LIGHTS, which is to the right of the Text layer indicator in the Layers panel, to make sure the layer is active. • Click on the Add a layer Style button (fx) at the bottom of the Layers panel, and select Outer Glow from the pop-up menu. The Layer Style dialog box appears. The default settings may be too subtle, so you will make some changes.

  33. Select the arrow to the right of the Contour thumbnail in the Quality section of the Layer Style dialog box. The Contour Presets dialog box appears. Click on the Half Round contour. Double-click on the Half Round contour to close the dialog box. • To change the size of the outer glow, In the Elements section of the Layer Style dialog box, drag the Size slider to the number 60, or type 60 into the Size text field. The glow becomes more apparent. • Keep the Layer Style dialog box open for the next step.

  34. Applying the Bevel and Emboss layer style • You will now apply a second style. • Click on the Bevel and Emboss in the Styles list on the left side of the Layer Style dialog box. The Bevel and Emboss effect is applied, and the options appear on the right. • From the style drop-down menu in the Structure section of the Layer Style dialog box, choose Emboss.

  35. Changing the shading • In the Shading section to the right of Angle, there is a Direction of light source slider. You can change the current light angle be clicking and dragging the marker indicating the current light angle. Click and drag the marker to see how it affects the embossing style. • Click and hold to select Normal from the Highlight Mode blending drop-down style.

  36. Now, click on the white box to the right of Highlight Mode. This opens the select highlight color picker and allows you to sample a color from your image, or create your own highlight color using the Color Picker. Choose any yellow-gold color; in this example, and RGB value of R: 215, G: 155, B: 12 is used. Press OK.

  37. Click on the Shadow color box, to the right of Shadow Mode, and change the color to blue. • Press OK to close the Color Picker. Keep the Layer Style dialog box open for the final step in this project.

  38. Changing the fill opacity • Select the Blending Options: Default. This is the top-most item underneath the Styles panel. • Click and drag the Fill Opacity slider to the left. In this example, it is dragged to the 20 percent point. Keep the layer Style dialog box open for the next part of the lesson.

  39. Saving the style • With the Layer Styles dialog box still open, click on the New Style button, on the right side of the window. The New Style dialog box appears. • Type my glow in the Name text field, press OK. • Press OK in the Layer Styles dialog box. The style is now added to the Styles panel.

  40. Accessing the style • Now you will create a new shape layer and apply the saved glow style to it. • Click and hold on the Rectangle tool to select the hidden Custom Shape tool. • Make sure that Shape is selected in the Options bar at the top of the Photoshop workspace.

  41. Click on the arrow to the right of the Custom Shape picker in the Options bar, and double-click on the Light Bulb 2 shape. • Press D on your keyboard to make sure you are back to the default black-and-white foreground and background colors. • Hold down the Shift key, and click and drag in the image area to create the light bulb shape layer.

  42. If any effects were automatically applied, delete them by clicking on the Effects sublayer and dragging it to the Delete icon in the lower-right corner of the Layers panel. • If the Styles panel is not visible, choose Window > Styles. The Styles panel appears. It is easier to find your saved style if you view the panel as a list, rather than a thumbnail. You can change the view by selecting the panel menu and choosing Small List.

  43. Scroll down if necessary, and then choose my glow. • Choose File > Save and you are finished.
