  2. Purpose • Help you explore the typical ways that you interact with people • Help you think about the meaning of power to you, in terms of your relations with other people

Inclusion • Measures your needs to establish and maintain contact with other people • Two dimensions of inclusion • Expressede i = indicates the strength of your need to include others in your group activities • Wanted w I = your desire to have others include you in their group activities • Question? Control ~ Power • Measures your need to control or be controlled by other people • Two dimensions of control c • Expressed e c= indicates the strength of your need to control others and have power over them • Wanted w c= strength of your need to have other people control you or tell you how to behave

Interpretation~Examples A score of 9 on Expressed Inclusion e i = indicates the strength of your need to include others in your group activities • Very outgoing toward others • Continually make gestures toward others to include them in activities (sports, parties, work activities) • S/he probably has no strong needs for others to include him in their groupings

Interpretation~Inclusion Examples • A score of 0 on Expressed Inclusion e i and 9 on Wanted Inclusion w I • Seldom makes invitation gestures toward others • Desperately wants others to include her/him • Those with strong scores in both categories will both want and express a lot of inclusion • People with two low scores on inclusion will be more of a private person who neither wants to include a lot of people in her activities or be included in theirs

  10. Control/power examples c • Expressed control (e c ) • Strength of your need to control other people and have power over them • Wanted control (w c ) • Strength of your need to have other people control you or tell you how to behave

  11. Control/power examples • A high expressed control/power (e c ) score will like to be in charge • When she encounters another high expressed control/power person, there’s likely to be a power struggle • A low expressed (e c ) likes to be controlled and will make an excellent subordinate

  12. Comparing inclusion to control • Individuals with strong inclusion needs want to be on the team, regardless of what it is doing and how it is performing • Individuals with strong control or power needs wants to be a winner, regardless of what team s/he is on or who the people on it are
