  3. Purpose • Inform members of USMAP Program and implications at separation/retirement • Formal military training program that provides Active Duty and FTS opportunity to improve job skills and complete civilian apprenticeship requirements while on Active Duty

  4. History • Established MAR 1976 between Sec of Labor and Sec of Navy • Aug 1999- incorporated Marine Corps • Apr 2000- incorporated Coast Guard • Navy’s National Apprenticeship Program

  5. Facts • 124 registered occupations • Over 85,000 active apprenticeships • Apprenticeship ranges from 2,000-8,000 hours • You have to have enough time on contract to finish • Credit for civilian apprenticeships • 1 trade at a time • Change trades

  6. Facts (CONT) • Cancelled after 18 months with no report • You can apply to be re-instated • Cancel your trade • Suspend your trade- VOLED Assistance Center request- state reason why • No off duty requirements • Need supervisor comments over 8 hours in a day

  7. Benefits • Bridge gap between military and civilians • Shows you are working to improve yourself • Helps make you competitive • Better jobs • Better pay

  8. Process • Select a trade- primary duty • Enroll • Online or paper registration • Work and record hours • Weekly logs- WCS/LPO/LCPO • Monthly Logs- LCPO/DIVO • Semi annual report- CO or by direction • USMAPS will send certificate to address on file • Maintain all logs for future employers
