  1. Love One Another Studies in Galatians and Colossians

  2. Outline • Serve (Gal. 5:13 ) • Do not bite and devour (Gal 5:15) • Carry burdens (Gal 6:1) • Don’t lie (Col. 3:9) • Bear with (Col. 3:13) • Admonish (Col. 3:16)

  3. Galatians 5:13-15 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another

  4. FREEDOM Remember William Wallace? The Lord Jesus, Messiah, gives us freedom BUT WE are to use our freedom to … SERVE one another

  5. FREEDOM From What? Sin and Death How? Through the Substitutionary work of Christ For What Purpose? To Serve

  6. Servants We are “Bond-Servants” Not at our own disposal, ie. The masters property How did Messiah serve?

  7. Tips For Servants 1. Be attentive to the needs of others 2. Be willing to perform menial, mundane tasks 3. Serve others cheerfully

  8. Do Not Bite And Devour Not talking about Cannibalism Refers I believe to Gossip and Slander What is Gossip? Sharing information with someone who is neither part of the problem nor the solution. What is Slander? To make a false spoken statement that causes people to have a bad opinion of someone.

  9. How Do I Handle Gossip Or Slander? Go to the Word of God Matthew 18:15 If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone What if I hear Gossip? Say “I should not be hearing this. Please talk to ____ about this as soon as you can. The next time you see the speaker, ask if they have gone to the person. Col. 3:16

  10. Slander Colossians 3:5-8 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming. 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth

  11. Carry Burdens Galatians 6:2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Act on prayer requests to the extent you are able. Know each other and the needs each bears Ask God for wisdom as to what you should and could do.

  12. Don’t Lie Colossians 3:9-10 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practicesand have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

  13. Bear With Colossians 3:12-13 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.

  14. Admonish Colossians 3:16-17 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Admonish = to tell or urge (someone) to do something good. Ephesians 4:15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ
