  3. About the area: • Situated in Croxteth near to West Derby • One of the largest housing estates in Europe • Fir Tree Drive North and South are the main roads around the housing estate. • Small roads veering off these main roads • From above this housing estate is meant to look like a tree

  5. Social Issues: • Main reasons for moving to Fir Tree: • Family • Work • Housing • Jimmy and Mary Marshall as an example

  6. Social Problems: • Youth Behaviour - Vandalism • Schools - Waiting Lists • Neighbourhood - Lack of community

  7. Comparison between age and the main reasons for dissatisfaction:

  8. Economic Issues: • 78% own their houses with a loan or a mortgage • Only 19% own their houses outright • Council tax Bands • 2 cars to most households as chief wage earner has to travel to work. • This is also due to the lack of amenities within the local area

  13. Environmental Problems: • Traffic • Police • Lack of play areas and activities for the youths

  14. Conclusions: • Positive aspects of Fir Tree: - Attractive environment for a range of needs. - There is a range of housing types within the estate. - There are regular busses for people with a lack of transport. - There is a new primary school on site.

  15. Conclusions continued: • Negative aspects of Fir Tree: - Lack of amenities. - Traffic. - Youth Crimes. - Declining community spirit. - Some areas are cramped. - Large waiting lists for the good schools.

  16. Suggested future plans for Liverpool (by residents): • Demolish derelict houses within the City of Liverpool • But where would they go? • Create more activities for the youths within the estate • Increase investments into schools • Increase the number of police on the streets
