  2. The Beginning • Brian Jacques was born on June 15th, 1939, in Liverpool England. He attended St. John’s school

  3. Brian the writer • And at age ten was when he and others realized he could write. • He was given an assignment to write a short story about animals. He wrote about a bird that cleaned the teeth of a crocodile. • It was so well written and creative that his teacher thought he copied it and and because he never said he copied it the teacher canned him as a liar.

  4. Other Professions • Before he became an author he tried several different professions. • He was a sailor, a longshoreman, a railway fireman, long-distance truck driver, a bus driver, a boxer, a bobby, a post master, and a stand-up comic. • His writing career really began as a playwright. He wrote three plays that were performed at the Everyman Theatre.

  5. REdwall • Then when he was a truck driver, delivered milk to Royal Wavertree School for the Blind, he started writing books for the kids. The Redwall series. • Because of the audience he wrote the books in a very descriptive manner so the words would paint pictures in the minds of the children. • A friend of his read the book Redwall and then took it to a publisher without Brian knowing. • That led to a contract of the first five books in the series to be published.

  6. The end • When he was wasn't writing, Brian enjoyed walking his dog 'Teddy', a white West Highland Terrier, and completing crossword puzzles. When he found time he read the works of Mario Puzo, Damon Runyon, Richard Condon, Larry McMurty, and P.G. Wodehouse. He was also known to cook an impressive version of his favorite dish, spaghetti and meatballs. • Sadly, Brian passed away on the 5th February 2011.
