Characters 1) Biff if willing to stand up for himself and his ideals. “I don’t like you yelling at her[Biff’s mother] all the time.” (Biff, pg.65) Whereas Happy is more willing to compromise to please his father. “Well, let’s face it: he’s [Happy’s father] no hot-shot selling man. Except that sometimes, you have to admit, he’s a sweet personality.”(Happy, pg.66)

  3. Relationships • 2) Biff has more of a broken relationship with his parents because he want to do his own thing instead of pleasing his father like Happy has done. “Biff Loman is lost. In the greatest country in the world a young man with such- personal attractiveness, gets lost. And such a hard worker. There’s one thing about Biff- he’s not lazy” (Willy, pg.16)

  4. Childhood • Both Biff and Happy were raised on a ranch and when they moved away to the city, they left behind their good memories, feeling claustrophobic and stressed where they live now. “How can he find himself on a farm? Is that a life? A farmhand? In the beginning, when he was young, I thought, well, a young man, its good for him to tramp around, take a lot of different jobs. But its more than ten years now and he has yet to make thirty-five dollars a week!” (Willy, pg. 15)

  5. Success • Biff and Happy can achieve success if they continue to work together, depending on what they define as successful. “And you wouldn’t get fed up with it, Biff. It’d be the family again. There’d be the old honor, and comradeship, and if you wanted to go off for a swim or somethin’ – well, you’d do it! Without some smart cookygettin’ up ahead of you!” (Happy, pg.64)
