  2. Foundations • Islam started in what is today Saudi Arabia • The first person to preach it was a man named Mohammad • He received revelations from the angel Gabriel • He would continue to receive revelations for the next 22 years.

Foundations • Muslims believe that their faith is no different from that of Jews and Christians • In fact they contain many of the stories from the Torah and Bible in the Koran • Muslims believe that Abraham and Ishmael were the founders of the faith and that people like Moses and Jesus were also prophets of this faith.

  4. Beliefs • 5 Pillars of Islam • Shahadah- Profession of Faith • Salah- Prayer • Zakāt- Alms for the Poor • Sawm- Fasting for Ramadan • Hajj- Pilgrimage

  5. Spread of Islam • Under Muhammad Islam will spread like wildfire • He will start in his home city of Mecca and then move to Medina and back again • Eventually Islam will spread from Spain in the West to India in the East • Today there are over 1 Billion Muslims
