Art Deco Movement • A movement in decorative arts that also affected architecture. • characterized by use of materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, lacquer, inlaid wood, sharkskin, and zebra skin • bold use of zigzag and stepped forms, sweeping curves, chevron patterns, and the sunburst motif

  3. 1920’s Interior Design • Many homes were decorated in the Arts & Crafts style, variations of traditional Georgian and Colonial styles, or Art Modern which embraced the marvels of the Machine Age of the 1920's • Architects and interior designers of the period recommended simplicity, inside and outside the home

  4. Rooms • Kitchen, living and dining rooms opened on to each other creating a larger space • Built-in furniture, such as bookcases, breakfast nooks, sideboards, china cases and window seats, reduced the amount of free-standing furniture • By the mid 1920's bathrooms in particular became fashion statements, they used bright colors like blue, green and yellow
