  2. We all have heard the phrase “Work Smarter Not Harder.” This is what time management is all about! When you use your time efficiently, you are working smarter, rather than procrastinating and leaving everything until the last minute and working harder to complete a task. This is why it is essential to understand how to manage your time properly. Time management is the process of planning and organizing the time spent on specific tasks. At some point in life, everyone struggles with managing their time—it’s inevitable. However, time management skills are essential. There is an endless list of benefits, but here are a few of the most notable. 1. Increasing productivity 2. Never missing a deadline 3. Increasing quality of work 4. Achieving goals faster 5. Reducing stress and anxiety 6. Minimizing procrastination 7. Leading to more opportunities and career growth 8. Extra free time

  3. The list goes on, but the point is clear. Time management is key. So, the big question, how do we manage our time to gain all these benefits and ensure productivity? To be sure, there is no magic formula. However, the following five skills will guide you towards the right path. List your tasks and goals. To start, you need to list everything you want to accomplish. Easy enough, right? This will help you get in the right mindset. Listing your objectives can help you organize all your ideas. I know when I have a lot to do, I have so many thoughts running through my mind. I can’t truly focus on what needs to get done until I write them out and visualize everything I need to accomplish. Prioritize, prioritize, prioritize! It is critical to go through your list and number your tasks based on importance. Urgent tasks need to get done immediately. For less urgent tasks, set aside time and do them later.

  4. Set specific deadlines. Setting specific deadlines allows you to track how much time you have to complete your tasks. Setting deadlines also keeps you accountable and helps you get everything completed on time. Do you dread piles of documents and long checklists? Setting deadlines will help you get through your tasks more quickly and feel less overwhelmed. Set goals and subgoals. Now that you have a list of tasks and general goals, you can set more specific short-term and long-term goals. Short-term, more easily attainable goals are important so you can track your progress and feel accomplished. And long-term goals keep you on track for thinking about your future and how you imagine it looking like.

  5. Take a break! It’s okay to take breaks once in a while. You need it! Taking breaks can improve productivity. Breaks give you and your brain a chance to rest. Get up, stretch, walk around, get some fresh air. Whatever it is you need to do, do it! This allows you to refocus and approach your task in a new and creative way. If you are struggling with managing your time, try working on these five time management skills for a few weeks. See if it helps you enhance your productivity. Make a schedule that works best for you and try to stick with it. You might be surprised how much more you can accomplish in a shorter amount of time. Not to mention the bonus…extra free time!
