NYU MRSEC Outreach Year 3: BioBus • Materials science playing a central role in a laboratory on wheels, bringing hands-on scientific activities to the young people at schools, community centers and museums • Professional development for 100 teachers and scientists for curriculum development • Provided more than 1600 students the opportunity to explore materials science through experiments focusing on the particulate nature of matter, thermal energy, and phase transitions – who said watching paint dry is boring? • Hosted 900 members of the public aboard the BioBus for materials science experiments at informal festival events. • MRSEC and BioBus partnership prominent in public outreach: paint drying experiments featured on National Geographic Radio and Discovery News • Contributed to NOVA’s Making Stuff and the Colbert Report on Comedy Central MRSEC investigator Jasna Bruijic shows 3rd grade students how watching paint dry can be fun on the BioBus.
