  1. 6.3a Adding & Subtracting Polynomials • How do you add and subtract polynomials?

  2. VOCABULARY 1) Polynomial: an expression which is the sum of terms in the form axkwhere k is a nonnegative integer. Polynomials are usually written in standard form (descending order, from largest degree to smallest degree). Standard Form: Degree Leading Coefficient

  3. VOCABULARY Term Names 2) Monomial: one term polynomial (Ex: 4 or -9x) 3) Binomial: two term polynomial (Ex: 12x+5) 4)Trinomial: three term polynomial (Ex: 5) Coefficient: A number multiplied by a variable in a term. The number is the coefficient of the variable. 6) Leading Coefficient: the coefficient of the first term 7) Degree of each term of a polynomial: the exponent of the variable

  4. VOCABULARY 8) Degree of a Polynomial: the term having the largest degree when the polynomial is 2 or more terms

  5. VOCABULARY PRACTICE: Write in standard form and identify the coefficients.
